Naenae Playcentre

Siting on the site of a pre-European swamp the woven form of the building reflects both the bending leaf of harakeke (flax) and the woven ketes produced from the harvested harakeke.

Internally the woven roof is partially lined with wood, referencing the adjacent forested hills. High-level clerestory windows bounce light across the ceiling into the play spaces.

The simple external form is clad with a durable pre-coated steel, contrasted with macrocarpa timber board and batten which creates a tactile edge to the outdoor play space, where the children will directly engage with the building.
