Rudolf Steiner Science Lab

This project involved the conversion of two existing classrooms into a new science lab with a resource room and teacher’s office.

One of the challenges came from the building being built into a hillside, which reduced the options for reorganising the space and limited the use of the windows to one external wall only. Also, we were careful to retain the special Waldorf design features of the original classrooms.

One of the most striking features of the new lab is the internal full height windows that form the glazed back of a large display cabinet. The cabinet is used to show off the lab’s more interesting and esoteric scientific equipment in order to pique student interest and curiosity.
